Do you know a teacher that is not related to you that manages the Student Council or P.T.A., or created new after-school programs? Perhaps you know of someone that purchased eyeglasses for a needy student or sent one home with food for the weekend? Or did their students achieve excellence due to their extra efforts? If so, we want you to nominate that teacher starting today (through 5 p.m. on January 29, 2016) for The Heart of Education Awards. While the process is easy – simply send the teacher a nomination letter of 200 words or less the direct them to www.TheHeartofEducation.org to fill out their contact information and 500-word or less statement of commitment to education – your recognition of their work is meaningful.
The Heart of Education Awards will honor hundreds of educators with an invitation-only event at The Smith Center on Saturday, May 7,2016. The prestigious evening will feature a red carpet, swag bags for all of our invited teachers, and spectacular entertainment. Twenty of these teachers will each be surprised with a check for $5,000 and a Heart of Education trophy. Each winner’s school will also receive a cash gift of $1,000 to be used for a program selected by the winning teacher.
The Heart of Education Awards is supported by the CCSD – qualifying teachers must be in good standing and have three years of service with the district – but unlike district-run programs, this is created by and managed by a group of community leaders who believe that our teachers should be recognized for their great work. Submissions will be judged by community leaders, education experts, sponsors and The Smith Center staff. While attendance, test scores and awards are important, we are really looking for the teachers that go above and beyond to make a difference in students’ lives. Winning teachers will be chosen based on the quality of the application, the recommendation letter, and the compelling stories told by each teacher. (So don’t be shy!)
Let’s give our teachers a night they won’t forget, nominate a deserving teacher today!
