Honoring Our Volunteers

As a large institution, The Smith Center has many people working “behind the scenes.” One essential group is our dedicated volunteers. These individuals give their time and expertise to help us during performances and other events in Reynolds Hall and Boman Pavilion.

With National Volunteer Week here, Patti Cameron, our community engagement representative, notes the importance of the people who give their time.

“Volunteers are a vital part to the success of The Smith Center,” says Cameron.

“We offer a variety of opportunities including ushers, community ambassadors, tour guides and greeters for educational events,” adds Cameron. “Some of our dedicated volunteers have been onboard since we opened. Some have only been with us a few days.”

One of our longstanding volunteers is the aptly named Steve Smith. He has been with us for nearly three years, and has logged more than 1,500 hours of service.

“It’s given me opportunities to meet new people and see a lot of good shows,” says Smith.

Smith, who volunteers full-time, encourages others to join The Smith Center ranks.

“Give it a try. The staff here is great. They’re always very supportive,” says Smith. “It’s a good place to come and have fun.”

Cameron advises people interested in joining the volunteer ranks at The Smith Center to visit our website and fill out the interest form.
