She’s played Cinderella, Bonnie Parker (Bonnie & Clyde) and Sandy Dumbrowski (Grease) on Broadway, as well as iconic Great White Way characters such as South Pacific’s Nellie Forbush and Hope Harcourt in the Tony Award-winning revival of Anything Goes, but intimate performances such as her Dec. 11-12 engagement at Cabaret Jazz enable Laura Osnes to be very much herself.
Osnes, who performed at the 2012 opening of The Smith Center, is excited to return to Las Vegas’ home of the performing arts. “In my opinion, it’s the reason to visit Vegas!” she said. “I was fortunate enough to be a part of The Smith Center’s grand opening celebration concert, and I fell in love with the glorious space. I got to return last year for Michael Feinstein’s New Year’s Eve show, and now, I’m so honored and excited to bring my own solo cabaret to The Smith Center’s Cabaret Jazz space.”
The Minnesota native, set to return to Broadway in the fall in director-choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler’s TheBandstand, has a Cinderella story of her own. One of thousands of aspiring actresses who auditioned for the 2007 revival of Grease via reality show Grease: You’re the One that I Want!, Osnes parlayed her victory into a stellar Broadway career – including a Drama Desk Award win and two Tony Award nominations – that shows no sign of slowing down.
An Evening with Laura Osnes draws on material from her solo albums If I Tell You: The Songs of Maury Yeston andDream a Little Dream: Live at the Cafe Carlyle, the latter of which captured her first foray into creating a cabaret set and featured Broadway tunes both rare and classic. Recently, Osnes and musical director/pianist Fred Lassen added “Love Will Come and Find Me” from The Bandstand to her set, giving Vegas audiences a hint of what’s to come on Broadway in 2016.
Tickets for An Evening with Laura Osnes start at $39 and are available here or by calling 702.749.2000.
