“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” - Wednesday, January 9, 2019
Best for kids 2 to 7
With Eric Carle’s classic children’s book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, there’s no better time to enjoy the live theater show, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
Featuring a whopping 75 brightly colored, handcrafted puppets, the show brings to life four of Carle’s most popular books: “Brown Bear, Brown Bear,” “10 Little Rubber Ducks,” “The Very Lonely Firefly” and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
“There’s no way you can be bored during this show. You see a new puppet come on stage every 40 seconds,” promises Producer Jonathan Rockefeller, who worked directly with Carle to craft the show. “I believe in creating high-quality content for kids, so they have a really nice introduction to theater.”
The show’s storyline and dialogue is targeted to entertain children and adults alike, Rockefeller emphasizes, adding that people of all ages enjoy seeing their literary “rock stars” brought to life.
“These characters are so iconic for everyone,” he says. “We’ve had kids as young as 6 months come to the show, all the way up to older adults.”
“Me… Jane” April 3, 2019
Best for ages 6 and over
What child wouldn’t be inspired by the thrilling childhood adventures of Jane Goodall?
Based on the popular children’s book by New York Times bestselling novelist Patrick McDonnell, “Me… Jane” presents lively animal puppets and ear-tickling original music to portray the whimsical childhood experiences that would lead Goodall to one day achieve groundbreaking work with chimpanzees.
“We took real things from Jane’s life and got playful with them, and brought them into the world of children’s theater,” says the show’s composer Andy Mitton. “These meaningful messages only work with kids if it comes through silliness and fun.”
Specially commissioned by The Kennedy Center, this uplifting show encourages all kids to follow their dreams.
“Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” – June 18 to 30, 2019
