VENUE: Reynolds Hall

Music by Franz Liszt
Choreography by Ben Stevenson

“Spectacle of an order ballet audiences seldom see today…exquisitely beautiful and atmospheric.” – New York Times

Ben Stevenson’s Dracula fills the stage with eerie gothic grandness, from its costumes and sets, to the glorious love triangle at the center of its iconic tale.  Set to the music of Franz Liszt, this world of sweeping movement, ingenious stage effects, and dark, rich coloring will envelope you in its haunting world of evil temptation and transfix you from first bite.

Prior to all performances, NBT will present Insights, an educational pre-performance discussion offering patrons an opportunity to further engage with the ballet, with special guests, multi-media presentations and more. Insights is free to all ticket holders and will take place in the Troesh Studio Theater, adjacent to Reynolds Hall, 45 minutes prior to curtain.

Costume Guidelines

With Halloween around the corner, we know that many of our DRACULA ticket holders will want to know if it is appropriate to embrace the Halloween spirit and come in costume.

To help guide our visitors who wish to dress up for your performance of Dracula, keep in mind the safety and comfort of your fellow audience members by following these simple rules:

  • Wear only family friendly costumes. Nothing overly violent, offensive or “sexy,” please as there will be young ones in the theatre.
  • Wear security friendly costumes. After working so hard to put together the perfect costume we want to make sure that the Smith Center security protocols don’t keep you from getting to your seats on time!

    • No masks or body paint covering your face
    • No props replicating weapons, even medieval ones
    • No replica weapons which are designed to make loud band or explosion noises
    • No sharp objects or materials that could injure fellow patrons
    • No realistic military, police, fireman or security costumes.
    • Avoid multi-layered costumes or floor length costumes that may be subject to additional security screening

  • Wear audience and seatmate friendly costumes.

    • Please refrain from oversized pieces – Do not bring or wear items/costumes that would obstruct another patron’s view /sightline to the stage or obstruct the aisles in any way
    • Skip the glitter, goo and ooze. Refrain from wearing any items that could be transferred onto the seats or other patrons clothing, i.e. excessive fake blood, make-up, face paint, glitter, etc.
    • No glowing or blinking, please. For the safety of our performers and the comfort of your fellow patrons, no lights or shiny reflective surfaces, please.

We encourage your creativity and thank you in advance for valuing safety and good judgement as much as we do.

For those who miss the mark, adjustments will be required in order to be admitted into the venue. Final determination and approval of entry is at the sole discretion of The Smith Center’s security team and house management.

Please note: all rules, regulations and guidelines are subject to change without notice.
