Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Monty Alexander has built a widespread following for his compelling stylings, blending complex jazz with folk and calypso rhythms. Alexander returns to The Smith Center by high demand to perform tunes from his latest album “Wareika Hill (Rastamonk Vibrations),” featuring his energizing reimagining of classic Thelonius Monk tunes. Inspired by Jamaican grooves Alexander first encountered as a child, at a gathering place for Rastafarian musicians on Wareika Hill, these arrangements fuse the worlds of jazz, ska and reggae into a musical melting pot.
