A three-time Grammy winner and iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for over 50 years, Ramsey Lewis returns to The Smith Center to give an electrifying performance with his acclaimed jazz-fusion band the Urban Knights, an all-star lineup of top-caliber artists who deliver unrivaled musicianship.
Performing swinging stylings of jazz, R&B and funk, the Urban Knights includes Grammy-nominated guitarist Henry Johnson, bassist Josh Ramos who has opened for legends like Stevie Wonder, keyboardist Tim Gant who has toured with artists like the Backstreet Boys, and drummer Charles Heath, who has performed worldwide and is resident drummer with the national tour of Oprah Winfrey’s theater production of “The Color Purple.”
Renowned for his songs that permanently changed the landscape of American music, including “Hang on Sloopy” and “The In Crowd,” Lewis is a Grammy Hall of Fame inductee, has seven gold records to his name and has performed at the Kennedy Center and the White House. Lewis’ music has been featured in Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese films.
