Grammy Award winning artist Skip Martin is a songwriter, producer and author, best known for his tenure as a lead singer and trumpeter for two legendary groups, Kool & the Gang and The Dazz Band, who continues to entertain around the world as a solo artist.

His achievements include MOBO Outstanding Achievement Award, Platinum & Gold Record recipient, R&B Song of the Year, six consecutive Top 100 albums, two Top 100 singles, to name a few.

Skip is also at home as an intimate Jazz musician, mesmerizing his audience with his vast repertoire of trumpet and vocal jazz hits. His tenor voice has a warm eclectic style developed through the years under the guise of maestro Stevie Wonder. Skip lists Miles Davis, Sammy Davis, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Arturo Sandoval and Tom Schuman as major influences on his musical development.

Not only is Skip an exciting musical phenomenon, but he is a masterful storyteller. His first show at The Smith Center promises to be a rare look into his musical history. And who on this planet has not heard the hits "Lady's Night," "Let It Whip," "Get Down On It" and the world-renowned "Celebration”?
