“Polished and stylistically savvy.” – The New York Times
Returning to The Smith Center by hot demand, Grammy-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell showcases his smooth vocals by performing hits from his new, No. 1 album released this year, “A Song For You,” alongside favorites from the Great American Songbook and popular melodies he has recorded for major feature films.
Widely acclaimed for his jazzy interpretations of classic melodies, 10 of Tyrell’s 11 albums have achieved top-five status on Billboard’s Traditional Pop Charts. This October marks the highly anticipated release of a 21-song, extended edition of his 2008 chart-topper “Back to Bacharach,” paying homage to Tyrell’s friend and mentor, Burt Bacharach.
Tyrell’s music and his production have further set the backdrop for numerous popular films, including “Father of the Bride” (Parts I and II), “Something’s Gotta Give,” “The Informant,” and “An American Tail.” He is also featured in this year’s acclaimed documentary, “Always at the Carlyle.”
Tyrell has appeared on “The Today Show,” “The Tonight Show,” “The Talk,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Day NY” and “Good Day LA,” among many other national television shows. He performs regularly at the renowned Café Carlyle in New York City, and has performed for top dignitaries and world leaders, including Presidents Clinton, Bush and Trump, President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, as well as Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
